Lactation consultants provide advice and hands-on help for anything about breastfeeding. In the beginning, they can help new moms with positioning baby, solving latch problems, or handling night feedings. Even after a mom has established breastfeeding, a lactation consultant can help with things like too much milk, too little milk, making the transition to work, or learning to pump. If you have a question about breastfeeding that your peer counselor can’t answer, a lactation consultant might be the person to ask next.
WIC Lactation Support Centers offer expert help from International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and registered nurses. Their services are free and available to all moms. Visit our directory to find the center nearest you or call the Texas Lactation Support Hotline at 855-550-6667.
